Eco-Lighthouse

Hafjell Hotel was environmentally certified as an Eco-Lighthouse in the winter of 2011 after long-term work and cooperation with Lillehammer Environment, Oppland County Municipality and Øyer Municipality. For the hotel, it is important that there should be minimal use of disposable items such as plastic glasses. The hotel focuses on energy management, waste sorting and HSE work towards employees in the company.

We are proud to be Eco-Lighthouse certified and have been certified since 2011, we are constantly working to improve. Environmental focus is a natural part of our corporate culture and our environmental policy is anchored in the board, management and employees. We were re-certified for 3 more years in June 2023. The hotel has a great commitment to society and supports local sports and associations, in addition to the management having several positions in the local community.

We have people from many different nations and the diversity is great. On the 2nd floor above the kitchen, we have created a large staff room with a dining table, sofas and a large TV. Here we have lunch together as far as possible, and hot food is served from 11.30 – 14.00 and 18.00 – 20.00 every day. We are concerned that everyone should respect each other and know that everyone is equal.  When you are employed by us, you will receive a link to a digital employee handbook that is continuously updated when they start work. We have gatherings, Christmas parties, town hall meetings and department meetings, and employee interviews are conducted regularly.

Source sorting is an important part of the certification and we have a strong focus on sorting. Arrangements have been made for both guests and personnel to sort at source.
Hafjell Hotel, together with its suppliers, will ensure that the hotel does not affect nature and the local environment in a negative way. We will choose the right suppliers and this is done in collaboration with NHO Procurement Chain, in addition to ensuring that suppliers outside the purchasing chain have an environmental focus.

The breakfast buffet and buffets have no disposable items, and it is encouraged that guests rather help themselves several times, so that we reduce food waste, both via information in the food court and via infoTV. Self-produced honey is served at the breakfast buffet, which our 30,000 colleagues on the roof produce. In addition, pigs are bought from a local farmer, where the hams are hung in the storehouse on the roof together with self-produced cured sausages. Around the storehouse, a herb garden has been laid out on sedum grass. The kitchen at the hotel buys moose from moose hunting teams in Øyer, and makes its own moose patties, among other things.

So far, there is a lack of public transport to Hafjell. Buses run at somewhat limited times, and it is more common for our guests to use a car. We have installed 7 electric car chargers where guests can charge at a very favorable price. We appreciate feedback, tips and advice from guests on further work or improvements in terms of environmental work, and if you want access to our reporting, just get in touch.

Greetings from the team at Hafjell Hotell AS
